Memory Care at Hartwell Place

Nationally recognized resident and family satisfaction scores.

Our person-centered approach to care is beautifully different.

When someone you love is living with dementia, one of the hardest things is watching the world begin to treat them differently. But at Hartwell Place, we focus on the person and not the dementia.

Dementia is a change in the brain, not the disappearance of a human being. Much like a stroke that can affect speech or movement, dementia changes how someone processes and communicates with the world, which is why our approach is deeply personal. We get to know each resident as an individual including their routines, comforts, stories, likes, dislikes, and what helps them feel most at ease.

Hartwell Place practices person-centered care

If someone likes to sleep late and enjoy breakfast later in the morning, we honor that. If they love music, conversation, gardening, or simply sitting outside in the fresh air, we make those moments part of each day.

Hartwell Place feels anything but institutional. Each day is filled with engaging activities. Whether it’s drama therapy, drumming circles, music in the courtyard, or brain games, there’s always something to enjoy, with plenty of laughter to share.

We focus on the “why” behind actions.

Our team takes time to understand the “why” behind actions and responds with compassionate, individualized care.

The team works to create days filled with:

  • Fresh air and outdoor experiences
  • Physical movement and exercise
  • Music and meaningful activities
  • Intellectual stimulation
  • Personalized daily routines
  • Calm, familiar surroundings
  • Genuine companionship and emotional support

Our families tell us:

  • “I’m happy she can be closer to me.”
  • “My dad is happy at Hartwell.”
  • “Everyone is very receptive to comments when I have a question about how my mom is doing.”
  • Families consistently prioritize happiness, engagement, and feeling “at home” over amenities or clinical features.

Having a spouse in a memory care facility is a major decision. My wife has been at Hartwell Place for five months now and it has proven to be a good decision. When I think of Hartwell, the following words come to mind: “well-run, kind, safe.” We came to Hartwell after a brief stint at another facility and discovered at HP a kinder, more loving atmosphere. Hartwell is a well-run facility staffed with bright, dedicated and loving staff. I continue to be amazed that I am greeted by name as well as being assisted with anything I need. I know too that the safety of residents is a primary concern. The connection with the Methodist Church gives me additional comfort.
